Wigan Local History and Heritage Society
We are a volunteer-led group dedicated to exploring, recording, and celebrating the rich history and heritage of Wigan and its surrounding areas. Our mission is to bring local history to life, through research, talks, publications, and events that uncover the stories of the people and places that shaped our town.
From monthly talks to heritage projects like the King Street Heritage Action Zone and the restoration of Haigh Hall, we are proud to help preserve Wigan’s identity for future generations. Be part of Wigan’s living history. Whether you’re a seasoned historian, a curious newcomer, or simply passionate about local history and heritage, we’d love to welcome you.
Joining the Society means becoming part of a friendly, active community that values learning, collaboration, and shared discovery.
